Last night I went to go and see the new Star Wars film in the cinema which, despite my reservations, I totally adored. I was never a huge Star Wars fan growing up but of course, because they're classics - I'd seen them all.
The one thing that I was totally amazed by was how well Carrie Fisher AKA Leia Organa had aged since the last film Return of the Jedi in 1983. In fact, it was all I could talk about to anyone who would listen on the way home, she literally looked immense. I'd initially thought that she'd been CGI'd or they'd used a younger actress to play the role.
So please, imagine my disappointment when I saw today that Fisher had been abused on Twitter by body-shamers for, you guessed it, being 'old'.
Impressively however Carrie has hit back at the trolls by saying:
"Please stop debating about whether or not I aged well. Unfortunately, it hurts all three of my feelings. My body hasn't aged as well as I have. Blow us."
"Youth and beauty are not accomplishments, they're the temporary happy by-products of time and/or DNA. Don't hold your breath for either."
Unfortunately the world is full of dick heads and even the response to her tweets were nasty, with one moron saying: "YOU DIDN'T AGE WELL AND U SUCKED IN STAR WARS. IT WAS A REST HOME FLICK. WANT MY MONEY BACK." And another tosspot saying: "So you want the money & adulation that comes with being a famous actor but not the criticism. Whoever told you life was fair?"
And to this guy I say fuck right off.
Would he say this to a hedgefund manager? Or to an accountant? No, why should she have to take criticism just because of her job? And more to the point, why is the focus on her looks?
There is literally nothing that she can do about the way that she looks, even though she does look totally awesome. But what annoys me the most about this, is I think that she has aged so well, better even than her co-star Harrison Ford, but can you imagine him recieving the abuse that she is?
No, because put simply, he is a man.
I'm so sorry that Carrie has receive this abuse, I thought that she was awesome in the film and I thought, as I may have mentioned once or a million times, she looks beyond fab.
Well done for shooting the bastards down Carrie and well done for being a totally amazing actress and for your great performance in Star Wars, actually, regardless of your looks.
