I am so lucky to be surrounded by inspiration. Doing what I do is the most inspiring thing in the world, I work every day to enable people to be the happiest versions of themselves and I am beyond privileged to call that a job. But working from home and often doing it alone can be very draining. I have days every now and then when I question everything that I'm doing and feel incapable of getting anything done. To put it simply, I completely lack any inspiration.
Luckily for me though, recently these days have been much fewer and further between and I attribute that totally to the people that I am surrounded by. As I get busier, which I have done recently, I have had less time to feel uninspired, which sounds weird, but because I feel like I'm moving at a million miles an hour, somehow just makes sense.
And as much as I'd like to think Pretty Normal Me is taking off as a result of me and all my hard work alone, I'm not sure that's true. Because this was never something that I was going to be able to do on my own. I tried it, and that's when the block started.
Recently I have not only reached out for, but have been offered 'help' in all shapes and forms. My mum, friends and my boyfriend have of course always been incredible, but since the launch of the new website I have Araminta Sheridan to thank for pretty much all of it. Thanks to her I have a website that I'm proud of, I'm understanding more about the world that I am living in (online), I'm making new contacts, hell, I even went to a talk the other day ON MY OWN. (Minty was supposed to come with me but our wires crossed and she missed it, so this is down to her, if not directly).
Her passion for life is contagious and she is so good at what she does that I feel the need to compete. But not in an unhealthy way. More in the 'you inspire me to be better' sort of way. Which is the greatest way of all.
At the risk of sounding like a naff Pinterest board right now, I'm going to throw two vom-worthy quotes your way that you can do with what you will:
You only have one life, live it.
Friends are the family that you choose yourself. (I actually have this one written on a mug).
Put the two together and I hope you will have an epiphany of sorts.
All great ideas come from inspiration and all inspiration comes from somewhere. It's very unlikely that you would inspire yourself into doing something amazing out of the blue. Although it's not impossible, the chances are this inspiration is going to come from somewhere, or someone, that will trigger something incredible in you.
We often find ourselves stuck in a rut, that is nothing to be ashamed of, it's incredibly normal. 9 times out of 10, life gets in the way of us doing what we really want to do. But what we forget is that we all have the potential to inspire. In fact, chances are, you've already inspired, way more than you know.
Have you ever run down the street in the cold? Walked through the park with two children and a dog? Have you ever given up smoking? Done 10 miles on a bike? Have you ever cut your hair really short? Gone to a gym class on your own? Felt so passionate about something that you made a difference? Have you ever lost someone close to you? Helped a friend in need? Have you ever french braided your hair perfectly?
Because you will have inspired someone.
I'm not sure whether or not Minty will ever know how much she has inspired me but I hope that you can all go forth and both find and be the Minty to someone else. Running a marathon is no fun if there's no one cheering you on. Getting a promotion is great, but better when there is someone there to celebrate with. Life in general is much better when you can do amazing things with amazing people and in turn, enable someone else to do their incredible thing. Even if it's just helping them to feel brave enough to epilate their legs.
Go forth and inspire girls, be the Minty!
