Tampons, sanitary pads and liners. I have been using these for 10 years, once every couple of months I pootle off to the local supermarket and spend a few minutes deliberating over what brand of tampon I’m going to shove up my vagina this month, I don’t know why but I normally opt for Tampax Pearl, there’s no real thought that goes into that other than that I’m a creature of habit and their applicators are nice. What do I know about the brand other than that? Nothing. And I’m probably not alone in that. We buy what’s available to us, out of necessity. We know that it’s too expensive, but do we know anything else about the objects that sit in or next to our vaginas for seven days of the month? I for one didn’t.
That was until I found the company TOTM (Time Of The Month) who create tampons, pads and liners that are totally chemical free, biodegradable and made of 100% cotton. They explain on their website:
“Tampons, pads and liners have been around since the 1930s. And most are still made from the same man-made materials used back then – rayon and viscose.
While we might wear synthetic clothing, it isn’t ideal for putting inside you. Especially if it’s treated with chlorine dioxide or chemical fertilisers. Your vagina is the most absorbent part of your body, and these harsh chemicals can be absorbed into your blood stream and cause problems with your immune system and hormones. They’ve even been linked to reproductive issues and cancer.
Pads can also be made from synthetics, and each one could contain as much plastic as four carrier bags.”
This was a whole load of stuff that I literally had no idea about, stuff that I was completely oblivious to. If I had known that I was risking my health by shoving something chemical up my vagina once a month would I still be doing it? No, not if I could help it. Which is why I am relieved to have found this brand, TOTM who’s products are totally hypoallergenic, contain no chemicals, no bleach and are made from 100% cotton. It doesn’t even really feel like a choice.
They even have the option on their website to order the relevant items monthly; you can let let know details of your monthly cycle and they will send what you need to you (in a discreet, eco-friendly package – trust me, I received mine this morning and the postman had no idea) in time for your period.
AND the really great thing about them? They donate 10p from every box to the GCF (Gynaecological Cancer Fund). This is not a sponsored post from me, this is just something that I think is really great and wanted to share with y’all.
